THE GREATNESS AND WONDER THAT IS STEVIE: To release Not One, but 2 NEW Albums for 2014

*Like most knowledgeable music fans, we celebrated some news this week with great fervor.

The legendary Stevie Wonder announced he was releasing not one but TWO albums next year , his first in almost a decade. That’s far too long to be without new tunes from one of the true icons in the music industry.

It’s hard not to understate just how legendary Wonder is; if there ever was a man who lived up to his stage name, it’s him. He had his first hit at 13 years old (“Fingertips, Part 2”) and co-wrote “Tears of a Clown” only a few years later. Within a four-year period in the 1970s, he released four of the greatest albums ever recorded (Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness’ First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life) and created the funkiest, grooviest song ever (“Superstition”). Oh, and that’s only the start of one of the most impressive musical resumes ever. Here, let’s take a walk through his amazing career right here. Go ahead, sit back and groove a little.

Uptight / A Place in the Sun – Stevie was 16 when he did this. Sixteen, everyone. This level of musical talent and creativity is almost incomprehensible at that age – and yet, here he is, in all his phenomenal glory.

Superstition – A live performance from Sesame Street, of all places. On the original track, the song’s amazing drumbeat was actually played by wonder.

Higher Ground – This funk classic (later covered memorably by the Red Hot Chili Peppers) was one of the highlights of his Innervisions album. Here’s another track that shows the power of his live performances.

Sir Duke – Off Songs in the Key of Life, this tribute to the great Duke Ellington retains its power as one of his most played songs.

Stevie and Eddie – Stevie reacted to Eddie’s astonishing impression with class and great humor – as evidenced in this brief SNL clip of them together. What a voice. What a legend.
