DID SIMON COWELL DO THE DIRTY ON DANNII MINOGUE?
It's the story that has shocked the showbiz world - the revelation that Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell enjoyed a brief romance during their time working together on The X Factor.
However, after details of the pair's relationship emerged in journalist Tom Bower's new book Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life Of Simon Cowell, many fans have come forward to question just how much the music mogul knew about what the book would reveal.
While Cowell has himself confirmed that the book is 'unauthorised', some have suggested that if he wanted details of the affair to remain a secret, he could have ensured that they were not revealed.
Speaking to MailOnline this morning, author Bower said that he was first told about the romance with Dannii by a source close to Cowell.
He said: 'Simon was furious at first when he found out that I had found out about the relationship.'
Asked if Cowell had eventually confirmed that the romance had taken place, Bower replied: 'Yes, he did.'
Cowell's spokesperson declined to comment.
Bower said that he was first told about the romance with Dannii by a source close to Cowell. However, it is not clear whether the person who revealed the relationship is still in contact with Cowell.
Bower said: 'I spent hundreds of hours talking to Simon, travelling around the world with him on his private jets and his yachts.'
Bower conducted a year-long investigation into Cowell's life, with some access last year to the mogul before writing the unauthorised book.
He added: 'Simon has not read the book, he has not seen any of the text and he won't be able to read it until it goes on sale this Friday.'
Cowell last night took to his Twitter page to tell his followers: 'Just seen the TV ad for the unauthorised book on me. Yikes!'
In Bower's book, there are several quotes from Cowell speaking about the romance - even though Dannii and Simon had both denied it in 2008 when it was alleged to have taken place - before she got together with Kris Smith.
He is quoted as saying: 'I had a crush on her. It was Dannii's hair, the sexy clothes and the t**s. I was like a schoolboy. She was foxy. She was a real man's girl. Very feminine.'
Bower's book describes how Dannii became Cowell's target when he changed the X Factor judging panel in 2007 to include her, allegedly calling her a 'new toy.'
The same year, Cowell said: 'Dannii reckons there’s a picture on The X Factor website where I’m staring at her bottom.
'I probably was... but I think most people would if they were sitting next to her. She was probably sticking it out on purpose.
'Every guy in the world fancies Dannii. She’s become a sex symbol since joining the show, and the contestants love her. She’s got that Sophia Loren, movie-star sex appeal, I love sitting next to her.'
Dannii last night made her first public appearance since the romance claims first emerged, taking to the stage at the Logie Awards in Melbourne, Australia.
