Etta James Passes Away at 73
Legendary soul singer Etta James passed away after a lengthy struggle with leukemia. She was 73.
*Etta James died Friday in Riverside, California after struggling through many health issues.
James has been struggling with kidney failure, dementia, and leukemia. She has been hospitalized since mid-December and on December 23rd was placed on a respirator.
James’ musical career had been put on hold in early 2010 when it was announced that she was suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. She officially announced she was retiring from music just before the release of her final studio album on October 25th.
James was definitely a huge influence on some of the great vocalists we love, like Christina Aguilera, and we will continue to hear her songs forever. Her most popular song, “At Last,” has been performed countless times on American Idol and covered by so many popular artists today.
Etta James was a true soul icon and her music will live on forever.
